Today's Picture to Ponder Photos
From the boardwalk - Reflections along Mangrove Walk at the Marina in the City of Boynton Beach, FL
Disappointed in being closed out of different walk I had hoped to take this past weekend, my eye was captured by the site I saw in the third photo above. Of course, I parked the car, grabbed my camera and started walking along this recently opened immaculate boardwalk, as yet unmarred by bird droppings. At one point we saw one lone little green heron on the railing. (see BIRD for an interesting and blurred photo of him)
When it came to selecting photos for today's Picture to Ponder, the imagery in the top photo looked too busy and confusing and I rejected it. A day later, I find it far more appealing. I got past the busy-ness and now simply appreciate the colors and the contrast of the plants above water with their reflections and those of the boardwalk and building in the distance. I like the reflective scene in the second photo simply for the horizontal flow of the reflection lines and shapes.
Self-Reflecting Queries
Though I never know what pictures I'm going to use until I start putting together an issue, it seems we have a theme of Reflections developing for the beginning of 2007. (See 2007 Issue 1 and Issue 2, if you've missed them) .
As I ponder what queries there are that might be fitting for today, I think about and wonder if there are differences between reflections in water, which reflect mainly what's directly above, and window reflections which may reflect a greater depth or distance. And then there are our reflections in the mirrors. We can see ourselves and also what's behind us and beyond.
Can we also see within, as we study our eyes? In addition, looking at reflections from a totally different perspective, there are those in our behaviors. Some may reflect circumstances. Others mirror role models, moods, and much more.
As a fitting close for today's queries I leave you with the following:
In response to the last Picture to Ponder's building reflections photographs, subscriber Beverly Buss wrote about "capturing the beauty of a reflection," and continued on, "Is all life a reflection??? Something to ponder, I suppose!!!"
Thank you, Beverly, for the parting query for the day.
