Today's Picture to Ponder Photos
Profile in Banana Tree Leaf
The other day I was sorting through photos and my eye was drawn to this photo because of the pensive profile of a "face" looking downward. It seemed to me that there was a split in the leaf and that the "profile" I was seeing was the result of the light shining through the crack.
There was something about the experience that had me think it would make a great way to honor you in this season, so I opted for this to be my Holiday Greeting photo this year.
In the process of sharing the photo with Sam, I cropped and enlarged it so that he, too, could see the "face" which wasn't there for him in the full view. Imagine my surprise when I discovered in the enlargement that the imagery was not coming from a crack in the leaf. Rather it was a filament from the leaf, curling down into the shape I saw.
Self-Reflecting Queries
As I reflect on the experiences with this photo, I am reminded of how often I take things at "face" value and then go on to interact with them and people based on those assumptions, without looking beyond. Had it not been for the experience of enlarging the photograph I probably would have written a whole piece today on light shining through narrow spaces.
Can you recall times you've jumped to conclusions and acted accordingly, sometimes erroneously? I invite
you to observe yourself, and your thoughts, in the next week. Particularly pay attention to places where you may do a "double take" upon seeing an object, person, or situation. Treasure your first impression. Then look to see if there is more.
Again, happy holidays.
The BOOK! - Pictures to Ponder: Inspired Journaling - Print Edition or downloadable eBook - your choice- now available!
"I bought your eBook earlier today and not only is it well written, the pictures you chose are lovely. The reason I waited so long to purchase was because I'm trying to curb my addiction to books and the clutter they are causing.
This morning I read the 10 page preview [link under photo on each of the description pages], and since you were offering it in a eBook format, I just had to indulge one more time. I know this will be a very successful for you. Congratulations!" Eva Macie, Artist
