Today's Picture to Ponder Photos
Calla Lily Photo/Drawings
In a conversation with some friends the other day, the love for calla lilies of one became part of the conversation. I was reminded of the above calla lilies and searched them out. I particularly love the top one, especially for the richness in colors and contrasts.
The lower image is a "fun" one for me and is on a wall in my kitchen mounted on a laminated plaque. I call her my "Kitchen Calla Lily" for she was hanging out and over my stainless steel sink when I took the photograph! If you look closely you will see the water bubbles from the drenching I had given the plant. .
Self-Reflecting Queries
My first introduction to calla lilies, that I could appreciate in our home, came several years ago in our local supermarket at Easter time. Pots of calla lilies in a variety of colors were available for sale in our local super market. The Purple Calla lily plant I bought that year became honored in a popular drawing and note card that I created. See Calla Lily Cards.
The following year, I remembered the calla lilies the day before Easter and they were all sold out, except for one pot of very wilted, almost-dead, looking flowers. The produce department head suggested I buy them, take them home, put them in a sink and drench them with water. If they didn't revive she'd be happy to refund my money on Monday.
As soon as I did what she said, I immediately became excited with the one flower that fell out over the sink and I started photographing. I then took the pot, placed it on a table in my living room, and continued photographing from many angles the plant and different flowers on it .
I don't recall, how well the plant "revived". I do know, however, I never claimed a refund, because the pleasure and satisfaction that I experienced went far beyond my initial expectations. That excitement continues today, in new ways, whenever I look at the art that resulted from it.
Can you recall times in your life when you were disappointed with unmet expecations? Did you stay in your disappointment or were you able to flip it/them into empowering experiences?
We are coming up into the holiday season which is often exhilirating for some and difficult for others. In either situation, I invite you to reflect on what is there that you can take and create as empowerment for you, and possibly others, in your life.
Should you, too, fall in love with the calla lilies above, I have put the upper one on a year-at-a-glance calendar, in our Nature Art shop. I also added them as a set, on my Naturesplayground site. There are five different calla lily photo/drawings in a set of note cards, with hand-mounted images, individually signed on those cards where my signature is not prominent in the print. See Card Sets.
