Today's Picture to Ponder Photo
the Sculpture of a little girl that sits on the glass table in our living room
As I looked over at this sculpture the other night she "asked" to be included in your lives. Her "by-many-years, older sisters", tiny scultpures "who" reside on the same table, were featured in Picture to Ponder over a year ago. See Beach Ladies.
In addition to the flow of her body, I especially appreciate the thoughtful expression on her face.
Self-Reflecting Queries
I sculpted this little girl in a summer class over 30 years ago! I can't believe it was so long ago. I still hear the instructor's voice commenting, "I've never seen anyone work with clay the way you do."
What he was referring to, I think and thought, was that I was "pulling" the figure out of the clay as I worked. We had a young girl sitting on a table, posing for us. Most of the students were creating and assembling the parts of her body and putting them together, and I was shaping her from a large mass of clay, poking an pulling and creating with what was showing up.
I often think of that experience when I reflect upon how I live my life. I tend to create and mold it from what's happening, rather than plan the pieces and components of it to then put them all together. I sometimes think it would be "better" the latter way and who knows? The "best" is to be happy "being" in the present with whatever the mode of operation is.
I invite you to reflect on your own life. Are you actively molding and creating it, or are you waiting for it to "happen" to you? What are your most empowering ways and styles of being? Most importantly, are you accepting of them?
Happy creating.
