Today's Picture to Ponder Photo
seed pods hanging in a tree
As we were leaving a little league baseball game the other day, I glanced down and noticed a striped-looking seed pod, which reminded me of those from the locust trees we had in New Jersey.
Of the 20 or so photos that I took, both on the ground and in the tree, I chose this one to share because of the whimsical feeling I get from it. I like the sense of its being suspended in mid-air, without attachments. The barely visible leaves on the left, though, do define them against the blur of the background.
In addition, the pods brought back fond memories of the earlier experiences I had with the others and the watercolor series I did over 25 years ago to satisfy my Master's Degree in Creative Arts. The following is one of those.
The NJ pods are the dominant images in this painting. Coconut seeds, coral and a driftwood piecs, plus a large shell, are the other components. I've always loved this particular one, though it never made it on cards, as did four others. See Fantasy Seascapes on naturesplayground.com
Self-Reflecting Queries
The first thing that comes up for me is how I almost missed the pleasure of these pods. A few of them had been right by my feet. I was busy watching the game and observing and listening to people exclaiming over the beauty of the photos in PICTURES TO PONDER, as they looked through it during down time.
Some might wonder how "pods" could give me pleasure. Firstly, there was the excitement and intrigue for me, simply in the discovery of them. Then there were the memories they brought back. Finally, there were the full ranges of colors, shapes and the variety of different patterns and textures found in so many of them.
I now invite you, once again, to pause and look around you - up, down, left, right, and behind. What is there that you might never have seen before? Is there anything now showing up for you in a new way?
Beyond visual exercises, I also invite you to do the same exploration with people and work interactions that you are experiencing.
If fond memories come up for you, you might want to celebrate them and share them with others, as I've done with the watercolor today.
For those who want to share and expand on such experiences,
Through-the-Lens teleclasses are being reactivated in November. There will be a 2:00 PM class and perhaps a night one. Watch the next issue for details.
Reader's Responses to Vol 2- Issue 85
The last issue, with the boardwalk reflections, generated a few responses that moved me. I've, thus, created a page, including the photo, to share them with you. See REFLECTIONS
