Today's Picture to Ponder Photo
a Rooster against an outside wall of the historic Desert Inn in Yeehaw Junction, Florida
As the photos from our trip played across my computer monitor, I chuckled when I came to one of a rooster framed by tree branches. I also grinned at the one of a hen or rooster (?) studying the feast of bugs, before sampling a few from our front bumper.
The picture I'm featuring today intrigues me because of the seeming unreality of it and the almost painterly feeling I get from it. In addition, I love the completely relaxed and assured posture of the rooster. I'm including it here also for what I see as the humor in it and the fun of probably "jolting" some of you at the unexpectedness of it.
Self-Reflecting Queries
Our trip to Georgia and visit with our family was a great one. On the drive home, having missed the rest areas with Nature walks, I got off the Turnpike at Yeehaw Junction. The guides at the tourist brochure/gift shop told us about the Desert Inn, about 1/2 mile down the road.
Though here did not seem to be much to see, I took out my camera anyway, after parking, and then started following the roosters, hens and chicks around the triangular piece of property. One of the employees, who was outside, stated that there are about 48 birds, all different species and all are pets.
Off and on during our trip, I had felt the "responsibility" of getting some new and different photos for Picture to Ponder. Up until that point I had "failed." Nothing in particular, outside of family and new business shots had captured my visual attention.
When I started photographing the birds and some other things on the property, it was NOT out of necessity to be taking pictures. It was purely coming from the fun of observation, both with and without the camera. The bottom line result was I did wind up fulfilling on a piece of my intention.
The point to this longer-than-usual story is:
"Are there places in your life now, where you are so focussed on what you think are the "shoulds" of what you are to be doing, that you are missing other possibilities?" I invite you to pause for a few minutes to check this out.
Also, are the areas where you can be meandering around in your own life, being as carefree as these birds seemed?
If so, will you take some time for it?
What images will cause you to smile this weekend? Have fun!
