TODAY'S PHOTO -
large anthurium leaf, with the anthurium behind it peeking through, in the American Orchid Society greenhouse in Delray Beach, FL
Whenever I visit the Orchid Gardens, I love to check this plant out in the greenhouse. Something new almost always seems to pop out for me. I believe this is the third time that I am featuring some aspect of it in Picture to Ponder. In today's photo I was originally drawn in by the playful aspect of the "flower" peeking out.
I also love the rhythm of the lines and the playfulness of the little green leaves, further behind, "sneaking" into the picture.
SELF-REFLECTING QUERIES -
The "story" behind today's photo became much too long to feature within the body of this issue, so I put it up as a page on eteletours.com. The article discusses jealousy, comparisons, looking at our purposes in life and actions we might be willing to take.
Today's photograph, which inspired the inquiry, was taken on a visit to the gardens with my friend Ina Ames from Boston. After I pointed out the view to her, she took a somewhat similar photo. For me hers wound up, at the time, being far more exciting. To see the two photos and read the full story, click on Jealousy and Identifying Purpose.
The bottom line conclusion and queries coming from that article follow.
After looking at the whole situation, I realized I have a choice. I can be "small" and dwell in jealousy, or I can simply recognize and dismiss that demon at any time and stand in the power and joy of having met my goals and made a difference with my students and "mentorees." I do think the latter is far more powerful, don't you?
I invite you to look at places in your life where you may be having twinges of jealousy. When you look at those places can you see where they might be coming from a commitment or mission that you have and then comparisons you are making? If so I invite you to stand in that commitment and act powerfully from there.
Back to the "story" - In terms of the technical aspects of my photography, I can choose to stay comfortable with what I do now with my camera, allaying my fears of discovery of not being "good enough" or I can take a course, since book-learning doesn't do it for me, and expand and empower myself. I shall do that in the Fall.
Are there places in your life right now, where you are staying in your comfort zone and not taking action that might further empower you? If so, is there an action to which you would like to commit now, that would make a long range positive difference for you?
As always, have fun with these queries.
NEW IN THE PICTURE TO PONDER GIFT SHOP -
an explanation of how to navigate through the shop. It was brought to my attention that some people find it very difficult to find things in the shop. I have therefore put an explanation on its Home Page.

Clicking on this icon in the NatureArt shop brings you to the section where the products featuring PTP photos are organized by photo first. If your favorite is not there, please send us your request.
The rest of the shop is organized by product first and then broken down into images. |
