TODAY'S PHOTO -
cattleya orchid in front of a waterfall in the American Orchid Society greenhouse
I was looking through old files for orchids photos for a gift shop customer and came across this waterfall photo. Although overall it's rather drab in color, something had me bookmark it earlier today. When it came photo decision time I thought this might be a good one for "cooling off" for all of you who are experiencing very high heat and humidity.
This photo also opens the opportunity for play to check out the difference in feelings between horizontal and vertical images. By positioning this page so that moving the drag bar will cut off a portion of the photo, you can experience two very different horizontal photos as a variation on the vertical as you see it.
In one view the orchid would be near the bottom of the photo. In the other, the waterfall can be almost cropped out. In Issue 103 last year I discussed, and included a quote, on the differences in feeling between horizontals -more restful -and verticals -very strong and dynamic. Can you feel any changes here as you do the exercise?
SELF-REFLECTING QUERIES -
In the discussion above I gave a concrete and specific with which you can physically play. Can you now transfer the above experience into a situation in your own life where a shift in perspective offers a whole new possibility for feeling? Perhaps imaging a scroll bar on it will help.
Also, related to the vertical/horizontal concept, though I am not a connoisseur of decorating or Feng Shui, you might want to look around the spaces where you feel most comfortable. Are there a predominance of horizontals? What about the areas where you feel most energetic? A lot of verticals?
And, though it's possible that I may be totally off-base in relation to your environments, I invite you to have fun and play with this.
