TODAY'S PHOTOS -
shadows on the boardwalk and railing at Wakodahatchee Wetlands
These photos are the result of an "assignment" in our THROUGH THE LENS telecourse. This week's exploration between sessions is to become more aware of lighting, taking photos at different angles and/or at different times of day with different lighting sources.
For today's issue of Picture to Ponder, I selected the first photo, above, to represent the badgering of our thoughts, the zig zag back and forth, often not knowing which is the "real" or "right" one to go with. Though I reduced it somewhat in size, I think we also get the feel of confrontation from the first photo.
Then there is the lower photo where, when stepping back, clarity starts setting in and the shadows are more distinguishable as being ON the planks of wood, rather than being actual pieces of wood in and of themselves. The more I study this photo, the more appealing I find it for the aesthetics, as well as the message.

SELF-REFLECTING QUERIES -
During the telecourse, I, too, take on the suggested activities. As we were walking at dusk the other day I had the thought, "Why did I assign something with so much work? Wouldn't it have been simpler to suggest taking photos of textures or another straight forward art element?" And the thoughts continued.
Then I stopped, took off the lens cap and started photographing when it occurred to me that shadows relate to light and the only way to get past the tension was to get into action. I also started looking at the "lines" in relation to the month-long study on which the graduate group elected to focus in their critique group which evolved from the last session.
Fun, peace and ease set in and, a few days later, I had the source for today's Self-Reflecting Queries!
Where in your life right now are you being pounded with self-defeating thoughts? I invite you to step back and relook at the situation(s). Can you now see some clarity?
Are there some actions you can take that will move you forward, out of the morass?
Have fun with it. Play and if you have a camera I invite you to do some photographing this weekend. Simply play with the photos and see what becomes available for you in mood shift. Perhaps new directions will also open up with the totally unrelated challenges looked at in the exercise above.
