LAST ISSUE'S PHOTO - (v2 - issue 46)
labeled as a Purple Gallinule with outspread wings in Wakodahatchee Wetlands. I mistakenly referred to the wings as those of the Gallinule. Subscriber Janine Bacquie, field biologist, wrote to correct me:
"The wings shown in the photo belong to a female boat-tailed grackle (Quiscalus major) who appears to be dive-bombing the purple gallinule! It may have come too close to her nest. Or, it could be an innocent encounter, with the grackle coming in to perch nearby. It is certainly a wonderful picture, open to many interpretations. Great capture! "
Once again, thank you, Janine.
TODAY'S PHOTO -
a leaf in caught up and entwined in a fence
As I was walking to our car, a few days ago, a bright orange-brown color caught my eye out of my peripheral vision as I passed. (Click the link for longer range view.) Turning back, I saw that it was a leaf rendered golden by the sunset.
I naturally got my camera out and
took a variety of shots. I simply loved the colors, the lighting and the contrasts, the rhythm of the leaf and its seeming playfulness and strength.
And then there were some "darker"thoughts.
I was still thinking about the experience and thoughts I had on being chained in, when I checked on the leaf, no longer there, three days later.
I wound up with a short written piece that I put up on a somewhat new, "Sheila Ponders" blog. See picturepondering.blogspot.com
SELF-REFLECTING QUERIES -
Among the ponderings I had were those around being held prisoners by our own thoughts.
Do you recall times when you are so caught up in what you think a situation is that you cannot see or get to "the other side?" Is there some area where you are in that place now?
If you look closely at the photograph above, it seems that there is only one section where the leaf is caught onto the fence. It's not as tightly captured as it initially appeared.
What if we look for the linking point where our thoughts are stuck and then simply find the way to let that go, to release? Remember we are the ones that create the prisons in our minds, so we are the ones who have, or can create, the keys to unlock them!

"Thank you for setting up this wonderful forum where I learned to see again! Your class bought me alive and was exciting to be a part of. That’s the reason I took the class to start with.
It was looking at your photos and your vision helped me to become a better photographer. Now I see differently. I will never see the same way again. And that’s what I wanted when I started. Thank you from my heart " – Blaise Allen, Ph.D, 4/06 Participant
