TODAY'S PHOTO -
2 more Chihuly glass sculptures from the exhibit at Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden. These are the last two that I will be showing in Picture to Ponder. Those people registering into the Photo/Creativity classes now have access to 160 photos from our visit there. You still have time to check out the schedule and select the session that fits for you.
Both of these sculptures are very tall ones. The top is a close-up of a portion of the multi-colored one in the lush greenhouse. It was Sam's choice for today. His comment, "It's electrifying and bright. It reminds me of a pinball machine."
I continue to be amazed at the repetition in the sculputres of the patterns and textures of the plants in the individual environments for which the sculptures were designed. When looking closely at the top photo, I can definitely see that in segments of the glass.
The sculpture in the lower photo is quite majestic in a much more open space. When broken down into sections, it has a more open feeling, reflecting its location and the flowers which it complements. Note the tiny insert (upper left corner) which shows the full height of the sculpture.
SELF-REFLECTING QUERIES -
If someone asked, are you able to give a quick answer as to what inspires you? And, when you are inspired are you moved to act in any special way? For Dale Chihuly, it's obviously turning what he sees into glass.
I say that Nature is the Inspirer/Healer for me. Readers might think that I get the inspiration and then photograph the catalyst. As I reflect upon it, I realize that more often, than not, my enthusiasm gets generated and/or furthered when I am focussing, looking through the camera's viewfinder, than from the initial sightings.
Sometimes my hands want to touch and sculpt and don't. There have been times in the past when painting, writing, or collaging has kicked in. And, as I reflect further, I recall that it doesn't/didn't just happen. Any of these activities were always preceded by a conscious choice to ACT and then the creativity, and pleasure, followed.
For now my biggest joy comes from inspiring others to take action. Thus I excitedly look forward to the start of the Photo/Creativity classes. I also appreciate hearing from you, independent of that.
For instance, subscriber Lauren Strouse has been moved by some of the Picture to Ponder photos to write and share poetry on the BLOG. See Comments on Issues 34 and 36.
