TODAY'S PHOTO -
artificial lilies and lysanthia, a grouping that was fighting with Monday's alstromeria for attention in Picture to Ponder.
Although these flowers are not "real", breathing and changing, they have, for me, a stateliness, that was commanding my attention. I like the contrast with the bold white flowers against the smaller, more delicate pink lysanthia.
Actually, lysanthia
have played a special role in my life. They were an unexpected delight, unidentified for a long time, in flowers from a farm that Sam brought to our home in New Jersey several years ago. The purple ones became the subject of the very first photo/drawing I created about a week later. See Purple Flower on my naturesplayground.com site.
SELF-REFLECTING QUERIES -
Looking at these flowers, and especially featuring them as the photo for the day in Picture to Ponder, brought up a whole series of considerations for me.
As a "purist," I was always anti-silk and other artifical flowers. I thought it was important to have the "real"thing on display or not have it at all. I understood the praciticality of artificial plants and flowers and they weren't for me.
I purchased today's lily and lysanthia combination, a few years ago,
to give more life to an empty family apartment we needed to sell. Interestingly not long after I added this, another "plant" and a few other touches, the apartment which had been empty for almost a year did, in fact, find a buyer.
Being one who has trouble letting things go once I have them, I kept the flowers and they now sit, very attractively, in a tall, leaded glass vase, in the far corner of our living room.
The queries evolving out of today's illustration thus become, "Are there places in your life where you are holding onto beliefs that might be holding you back, preventing you from moving forward?" "If so, are they 'stories' that you made up? Ones that you can reframe and change just as easily?'
For me, I now have something decorative in my house that I enjoy and it's even something that has drawn favorable comments from visitors. It also gave me an illustration for today's issue of Picture to Ponder.
Smile and have fun.
