TODAY'S PHOTO -
a merganser, according to the bird watchers, at Wakodahatchee Wetlands.
The bird was off in the distance and I was excited to spot him. Although the space is open, he blended well with the log on which he was resting.
I took several shots and chose to share this particular one because of the overall feeling of peacefulness I get from it. I think that it's the clarity of the water that's creating the experience.
If you wish you can compare this photo with a "cute" one in which you will see more of the bird, but the water is "clogged" with dense reflections, see MERGANSER 2.
SELF-REFLECTING QUERIES -
It had been my intention to share a face I saw in a rusted segment of a large piece of sprinkler equipment. As I looked at it again today, I started seeing it with the perceived eyes of subscribers who comment on how much they love the birds and colorful flowers most often in Picture to Ponder.
I was also remembering a recent conversation with a subscriber who had been sharing how much she loves the bird photos. There was such enthusiasm and excitement in her voice that I was enrolled and wanted to give her more.
I cite these two situations because I think that they are good examples of how often our actions, at least mine, are determined by what other people say, or what I think that they will say. The latter "knowing unknown" can almost, in my experience, be self-destructive at times.
Do these actions come from the desire to please people or simply to "look good?" Is there a subtle difference between "pleasing" and "looking good?"
Can you find yourself in any of the situations I've just described? Do you recall any where, in order to please, you denied making a strong statement of your own?
If you are at the point where today's queries have gotten quite "heavy," simply let them go and get back to our photo and allow peace and relaxation to settle in as you be with the water and quiet reflections in today's imagery.
