TODAY'S PHOTO

an unfolding yellow hibiscus, one of yesterday's
series of 9 photos
Just before putting yesterday's photos back into a "folder",
I ran another slide show of them and realized that, with the
small views, you had not had the opportunity to experience the
richness and delicacy of this hibiscus flower. For the weekend
I, therefore, decided to give you this one which is so gently
unfolding.
I love the shadowed color and the almost transparency of some
of the petals, as well as the few drops of early morning rain,
or dew, that remain on the hibiscus.
With this flower comes our wishes that
your weekend, a long one for those in the US, also unfold beautifully.
SELF-REFLECTING QUERIES -
Speaking of "unfolding," Sam and I had a fun time
last night transporting our very bright, enthusiastic granddaughter
Kaitlyn, age 13, from an acting class about 40 minutes from
her home. We enjoyed her many words of wisdom as she shared
about different of her experiences.
This morning, when I mentioned our trip, Sam started smiling
broadly. He said he was thinking about how she is "evolving."
We then recalled a few of the conversations. During one she
remarked that much of her class had a growth spurt this summer
between 7th and 8th grade. She's always been very petite and
regularly monitors her height.
She then said that several students have now been calling her
"Shorty." "And I," she proudly declared,
"respond, 'I'm not Shorty. I am 4 foot 11!!!"
My point for this story today is, "What can you claim with
pride in yourself or your life that others might have put a
negative spin on? In general, what WILL you claim as your pride?
Also, it's obvious we are very proud grandparents, not only
of Kaitlyn, but of Ryan, Will and Jack. Of what in your life
are you most proud?
