TODAY'S PHOTO -
a spatterdock flower in Wakodahatchee Wetlands.
This is spatterdock is the wetlands version of the water lily
with which most of us are undoubtedly more familiar, at least
if we visit gardens with fountains and ponds. For those of you
who live in the Philadelphia/Delaware area, Longwood
Gardens is a must see, if you haven't been there. According
to their site they have over 40 different indoor and outdoor
gardens in their 1,050 acres of gardens, woodlands, and meadows.
Giant water lilies, staghorn ferns and rainforest gardens are
among my treasured memories.
Insofar as today's photo, it's one that popped out at me as
I was organizing photo folders the other day. I think it's the
contrasts, curves, and glistening that are attracting me. Sam
sees a "monster."
What is shining in your life today? and what places have you
visited that stand out in your memory? Why?
READER COMMENTS ON THE LAST ISSUE - Issue
108
I was quite moved by the number of responses to what I shared
along with last issue's photo of my feet in Sam's lap. Thank
you all!
"What an interesting picture!! I think it's beautiful how
much you two love each other! " Andee Losben (niece)
"Thank you for sharing Sam with us. His interview
was great. You are both very blessed to have each other. You
two seem to have woven creativity into the easy times and the
more challenging times in your marriage. How wonderful to have
creativity as such a shared value, along with humor and love.
You have reminded me how blessed I am to be loved by a creative
man." Rebecca Collins
"What a picture! What a way to start the morning! It says
to me 'Love has no words.' Thank you, Sheila and Sam. :)"
Roma
"Just wanted to tell you how much I loved Sam's photos,
as well as the photo of you and your feet on Sam's lap. I also
enjoyed hearing about the two of you and your life together.
I am struck by the visual impact I get from Sam's
earlier Photos as well as the ones you take. Each of you
in your own way, are able to convey so much emotion. Sam's pictures
have an aura of pathos, while yours, vividly invoke an intense
feeling of being alive. Thanks for sharing these with us."
Noelle Randall
"I LOVE THIS! The picture, yes - and your heartfelt words.
Excellent...." Julie Jordan Scott
"I really loved this picture. It was great of you to share
it. It feels very personal and because of that it's very touching.
Sheila is not *just* the wonderful writer/photographer. Sam
is not *just* her husband with Parkinson's. This is a beautiful
picture of a man and wife. A quiet picture of a couple's peace.
What a wonderful reminder; one that you and your family can
re-visit over and over.
My dad is a photographer and when I was a kid I felt over-photographed.
I was his model for his "experiments" and I had to
hold still often and not tear-up when the sun was in my eyes.
Spiritually I'm always "in the moment" so I rarely
feel the need to look back at photographs. Your picture here
changed my mind. I only hope the photographs I take in the future
will hold as much feeling as yours do." Melanie Forbes
- Thank you for sharing yourself also, Melanie.
It does make a difference to know that we may have helped transform
something for you.
"This is WONDERFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Made my day..................
With an incredibly busy day with our mailout,
this was a wonderful conduit for grounding back into the important
things in life: companionship, expression, and "making
a table" out of whatever you happen to have on hand..."
Marney Makridakis
"I reacted and formed my response before I read that
this photo is of you and Sam. That makes it even sweeter, but
my first thought was What fun! Here's a couple so comfortable
with each other that they can be totally relaxed together. I
loved the mix of casualness and intimacy. May you and Sam keep
finding ways to cope with the challenges of life in creative
and pleasing ways." Mary Gray
"I love this one, and you do have very pretty feet!"
Lisa.
"OK, this is my 2nd favorite
photo! (after the serene
water scene). I knew it was you and Sam. Loved the intimacy,
easy affection and quirkiness of this photo. You have captured
a loving whimsical moment. Those little moments that no one
knows happens between a couple and that just flow out of who
they are and who they can be when theyre together. WOW!
This made me laugh, feel warm and fuzzy and screamed unique!
You are a treasure trove." Adela Rubio
Again, thank you all for your sharing, your acknowledgement,
your good wishes and support. It makes a huge difference for
us.
