TODAY'S PHOTO -
the immature little blue heron, from your favorite reflection
picture, here to talk about "This and That."
"Yep, I know, birds are not the most frequently asked for
category in Picture to Ponder and I'm here today because Sheila
said with my mouth open I'd be a good symbol for all the "this
and that" which she has to say.
Actually Sheila got some great head shots of me with food wrapped
around my bill. It took her a while to figure out what my, seeming,
beak rings were and, if you ask her, she might share those photos
with you.
Also, please excuse the fact that I am not looking right at you.
I thought I'd reach more people projecting my voice out into the
world in a distance this way."
THIS AND THAT -
WINNERS
The three winners were drawn by Bob Tatem from the names of all
the survey respondents last week. They were: First Prize - Marva
Harvey; Second Prize - Ola Norma; and Third Prize - Cynthia (no
last name given). All other respondents were e-mailed their promised
gift certificates.
If you responded to the survey and did not receive your certificate,
please e-mail Sheila.
Two respondents did not include their names and, to let you all
know, I was unable to match respondents with their coments, so
no concern if you did not want to be identified.
SOME SURVEY RESULTS
There is now a page on the site with a
list of the top 12 photos that were selected more than any
others. The reflection of the little blue heron above, or his
brother or sister, was #1, having been listed by 23% of all of
the respondents.
In creating the thumbnail photos, so you could SEE what they,
are on the list
page , I became in even more AWE of those of you who responded.
ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
I was surprised at the number of people who actually went through
every issue to check out the photos and make sure they matched
them up with the # of the issue, as I had requested. I realized
as I worked on the thumbnails how difficult that was, ESPECIALLY
with the first 50 or 60 where the description was in a different
issue!!! So added THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU for all that
you put into this.
PLAYING WITH OUR MINDS
The responses, below, to Friday's issue were quite interesting.
I love when people are totally caught up in the unexpected. I
was reminded of this when I created the thumbnail for Root Grass.
At the time it was published nobody knew what it was. I turned
it on its side today for the thumbnail and suddenly it became
more obvious. See rootgrass
original and rootgrass
horizontal.
Suggestion: Taking a lesson from the "root grass",
where this week might you rotate something 180 degree to gain
a whole new perspective?
READER COMMENTS ON THE LAST ISSUE - Issue
106
"Cool - at first, without reading the description, my eye
was looking for the water line where the reflection meets the
horizon - but it's a piece of wood!!" Debra Schanilec
"I would love this as a painting." Gretchen Little
- I actually got the feeling, myself, of a painting from the
picture.
"To reinforce your statement that "There is the possible
mystery of not even knowing what we are looking at.", my
initial thought was that of wind blown sand on a beach flowing
over a tunnel. Not until I read what it was did I actually see
it your way." Joel Grubman
"Here's one where the subject line, while absolutely truthful,
sent me off in a deceptive direction. I decided the whole thing
was the landscape and that I was looking at wind rowed sand.
Couldn't figure out what that brown thing in the middle was, though.Even
after I read "top of a railing," it took my brain some
minutes to resolve the photo in my mind.
I see the boy with the bell, but this pic is "fantastical"
even without looking for hidden images." Mary Gray
"I loved this pic. When I first looked at it I thought
it might be a cave in a dessert, I could almost imagine a dragon
lurking inside! Rachel Kitterman's influence.**
It also reminded me that a couple of years ago we picked up a
piece of driftwood off the beach that, if you squinted at it,
looked like an angel holding a mirror. I have just gone to find
it and sure enough it still looks like an angel holding a mirror.
Phew!
Thank you for reminding me about it.today, so...." Alis

**Rachel did a YOU*U focus group DAYDREAMS
and DOPPLEGANGERS:Finding your Creative Voice. Although I
did not do the course, I did read the material. Very EXCITING!
