TODAY'S PHOTOS
-
(Click on the first photo and follow NEXT
on each page for slide show and I discovered in
my Outlook Express this is not working. If it does not for you
either, then simply go to ISSUE
66 You can see all the photos enlarged, plus read the text.)
Following up on yesterday's promise to show you the now "teen-age"
Great Blue Herons, I wound up creating a "slide show"
of several different views of the same birds and one of another
smaller baby from a nest that had only one bird hatch.
Always wanting to give you more, I thought I could simply "throw"
the pages together and three hours later, I'm finally bringing
it to you. Some people in my community, who are subscribers,
ask where I find the time to do this everyday. For me it is
a creative expression which I need to juice me.
What are the creative expressions or passions that fuel you?
Lastly, for today, I want to acknowledge my dear friend Rebecca
Collins, in Texas, for all that she taught me in web design
practicalities and the use of Dreamweaver, the web site builder
tool I use. She set up my very first web pages and through what
she taught me subsequently, in managing my own, I was able to
set up the structure of today's ezine and "slide show."
Becca's main business is doing pet portraits. You can visit
her at www.artpaw.com.
(Note - on this last challenge, as noted above, I did not
consult Rebecca. At some point I will learn why the slide show
does not work in email, at least mine)
I do periodically acknowledge Rebecca
AND whom I haven't acknowledged, and will, is the person who
set me up with her. Rebecca's friend and I were both in a workshop
in New York. When I mentioned thinking about doing a web site,
the friend approached me, gave me Becca's name and number and
also took mine. The friend passed mine on to Rebecca, who was
the one who followed up with me.
How about you? Whom can you acknowledge today? Think of at least
one thing in your life of which you are proud? How many levels
can you go back for acknowledging people and situations that
brought you to this point? Again, whom do you want to thank
and will you do it?
Have fun with it.
READER COMMENTS ON YESTERDAY'S ISSUE - Issue
65
A few of you commented on the gray in yesteray's photo. Part
of it has to do with time of day and part of it, I think, has
to do with my camera which does not have sophisticated lenses
and filters, so I can't make adjustments, nor would I know how
to!
Linda Vining, who on occasion identifies herself as LindaBlueHeron,
wrote:
So enjoying the heron photos. We have areas of the river here
(the Kokosing River) that never freeze in winter, and our herons
stay year round. A lot of them leave, but some always stay.
In summer, they come back in droves to the little lake that
I paddle with my kayak -- all kinds. All the Great Blues, and
their white variants; bitterns, green herons, Great White Egrets
and Cattle Egrets. It took me a long time to learn how to match
up beak and leg color, so I could tell the White-phase Herons
from the Great White Egrets. (We get very few of the latter,
but they do come.)
Anyway, it's nice to think you have a maternity island for some
of my summer friends.

and Mary Gray, in her almost-daily response:
I didn't see the baby bird's head right away, but I did spot
it before I read your mention of it. (Yay me.) The adult is
definitely standing sentinel. Those odd feathers on the shoulder
even remind me of an epaulet, as on a military uniform. Other
than that, I like the way the sticks of the nest scratch against
the sky.
